I help dynamic teams create compelling products that make life better.

As a start-up veteran and consultant, I’ve been helping product teams define requirements and delight users with elegant, usable experiences for a range of unique and specialized products — from expense reporting to kitchen entertainment, timecards to treadmills, content management to designer denim, and from airplanes to resorts.

I’ve worked on a wide range of projects, including:

  • Delivering marketing and detailed functional requirements for single products and an entire product family.
  • Designing and building user interface prototypes
  • Designing and developing websites and web-based applications
  • Conducting usability testing
  • Managing product backlogs
  • Creating and implementing key internal processes
  • Defining company branding and logos
  • Writing and editing marketing copy
  • Writing and building Help systems
  • Writing and publishing technical documentation

I work intimately with product managers, development teams and users to identify high-value user needs and translate them into developer-ready functional requirements at the necessary level of granularity — be it workflows, wireframes, mockups, lo-fi prototypes, demos, design specs, user journeys, story maps, usage scenarios, task analyses, or highly detailed use cases, backed up by usability research and testing.

My strengths:

  • Quickly developing trust and camaraderie with internal teams at large and small companies or third-party agencies to tackle complex problems and arrive at potent solutions.
  • Actively listening to developers and conveying technical complexities to stakeholders and product managers, helping the team make better-informed decisions.
  • Resolving challenging problems using best practices enhanced with innovative approaches.
  • Confidently making quick decisions and easily switching gears when needed in a lean, fast-paced development environment.

While I enjoy visual design and building websites for small businesses, I really shine when I can focus on the nitty-gritty detailed interaction design of complex applications. Ask to see my use cases.

I’m certified as a Scrum Product Owner and Scrum Master so I can proactively support the team as a UX, Business Analyst or Documentation team member in an Agile environment.

Since day one of my career I have taught myself innumerable tools, software, standards, paradigms, processes, and practices. Heck, I built my first corporate website in 1996 and I was designing touch-screen and mobile interfaces 3-6 years before the iPhone debuted.

After the birth of my first kid, I decided to focus on my family for a time. I’ve since realized that if I can home-school two rambunctious young boys, start a web-hosting service, build sites for small businesses and community groups, get certified in Scrum, keep up with current UX tools and mobile design patterns and learn video editing in Premiere Pro….well, I can tackle anything!
